2018 Bud Haveling
Special Achievement Award

This award recognizes a person who over a number of years has made significant
contributions to sports beyond athletic endeavors, ie: media, coach, official, trainer etc.

Gerald Shephard

Gerald Shephard has earned this honour for his outstanding career as a baseball player and coach. The Observer once referred to him as the “Gordie Howe of the Western Counties Senior Baseball League,” noting he had played and coached the sport in six different decades.

He started playing junior ball in Wilkesport at age 12, back in 1958. Along the way he won a number of championships, including the 1967 OBA Senior

'D' title.

Shephard continued to play throughout the 1960s and ended up with the Corunna Giants in 1975 before retiring as a player. From there he went on to a great coaching career. In fact, in 1993 he was named Juvenile coach of the year for all of Ontario.

If all that wasn't enough, he also played hockey and golf.
