The Sarnia Lady
Sting Midget AA girls had an outstanding
weekend at the Girls Silver Stick
tournament. For a team who has had trouble
creating any offence as of late, who would
have thought out of 16 AA teams they would
end up one of the final two.
Sarnia finished
second in their pool to the Toronto Aeros,
who have yet to lose a game this season and
only gave up one goal the entire tournament.
Sarnia beat out Hamilton (4-1) and
Waterloo(3-0) to move on to the quarters
against Leaside who they also outplayed and
took down 2-0.
This put them in a semi final matchup with
another underdog team from St. Thomas. They
have played each other in league play and
always had a close game. Even though Sarnia
once again dominated the play, it was
another close one finishing 1-0.
This would
set up the second meeting with the mighty
Toronto Aeros for the finals. Sarnia had
lost 3-0 in the first meeting and despite an
amazing effort would lose again 2-0. The
Sting gave it everything they had and gave
Toronto a run for their money as it was not
an easy victory. Sarnia should be so proud
of finishing second out of such a huge pool
of some of the best Midget AA teams around.
This is just the momentum they need heading
into playoffs this weekend against the 2nd
place team from Saugeen Maitland. If they
play anything like they did at Silverstick,
they are unstoppable.
Sarnia's two hot
goalies, Cassie Kerrigan and Mallory Mullin
did an fabulous job in net for the Sting.
Goal scorers for
the tournament were, Darian Limb, Marlowe
Pecora, Sierra Butler (2), Megan
Moore, Danielle Girard and leading the team
was Karly Dobbin with four goals.
Marlowe Pecora
was given the distinguished honor of
being picked MVP in the finals.
