A
new Season begins
On Thursday
October 15th, 2009 the Sarnia Lady Sting
Peewee "A" squad began their season on
the road in Strathroy playing rival
Bluewater Hawks. After a nervous,
tentative first period, the girls
finally began to find their stride
skating to a convincing 2-0 win. Sarnia
out shot and out played the Hawks over
the last two periods getting many
scoring opportunities. The defense was
solid keeping Bluewater at bay most of
the game. Scoring for the Sting were
Georgia Auger, from Bryanne Roberts and
Leslie Brandon with Roberts and Naomi
Parsons picking up the assists. Naomi
Dubs picked up the shut out in net.
On Saturday
October 17th, 2009 the girls played
their home opener at the RBC Center in
Sarnia. Again it was against a heated
rival in the Chatham Outlaws and the
first of a home and away series that
will be played Saturday and Sunday. This
game saw a close tight checking affair
from both sides. Both goalies made great
saves to keep things knotted 0-0 through
most of the game. It wasn't until just
over a minute left in the third period
when Averey Devereaux scored giving the
Sting the 1-0 win. Assisting on her goal
was MacKenzie Wilson and Lauren Wilson.
Whitney Simpson earned her first shut
out of the season in net.
Sunday's
game saw Chatham return the favour by
handing the Sting their first loss of
this young season. The girls seemed a
bit slow out of the gate and the Outlaws
took advantage taking an early 2-0 lead.
By the time Sarnia started to skate and
bring the game to within one, time ran
out. Scoring for the Sting was Sydney
McDonald from Naomi Parsons and Claire
Vanden Eynde.
The next
action is this coming weekend in Windsor
at the second annual Hocktoberfest
international tournament which features
teams from many U.S. States and as far
away as England. Good luck girls! Have
fun.
