Thursday Oct. 8
Port Huron 7 Mooretown 2
Mooretown took the
ride across the Bluewater Bridge Thursday
evening for an exhibition game with Port Huron.
In their weakest
effort of the season Mooretown was pounded 7-2
by the home squad. It was an ugly game that
everybody shared blame in.
Jared Pageau scored
both Storm goals and Justin Murphy added an
assist.
Both Evan Musson and
Emma McCormick played in goal.
This was the Storm's
3rd straight loss and the start to a busy
weekend.
Saturday Oct.
10 Mooretown 8 Dresden 3
In a much better
effort the Storm came out strong and never let
up in an 8-3 victory over the home team Dresden
Kings.
Jared Pageau scored
4 goals and added an assist while Elijah
Contreras scored 2 with 2 assists.
Drew Pepper had a
goal and 2 assists and Aaron Dobson rounded out
the scoring.
Keith Bogaert
chipped in with 2 assists and Hayden MacDonald
had a single helper.
Emma McCormick and
Evan Musson both were strong in net.
The kids had to
hurry and shower as they had another game at
3:30pm at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit before
the Wings game.
Saturday Oct.
10 Mooretown 7 Barrie 3
In the highlight of
the day the Storm travelled to Detroit, Michigan
to play the Barrie Jr. Colts at the Joe Louis
Arena.
It was very exciting
for the kids and parents to be playing in an NHL
arena.
Before the game Red
Wings coach Mike Babcock came into the dressing
room with some words of encouragement to the
players.
Once on the ice and
playing the kids were greeted on the bench by
Alexander Ovechkin and Caps head coach Bruce
Boudreau.
As for the game the
good guys skated to a 7-3 victory over the
Colts.
Jared Pageau paced
the attack with 4 goals and an assist. Before
the game the Storm swung a trade for Jr. Sting
RW, Cameron Rannie. They acquired his rights for
the day by giving up $25.00 and a used puck bag.
Rannie paid quick dividends by scoring twice and
setting up three others for a 5 point game.
Newcomer Brandon Rondeau, newly signed from
Whitehorse of the Federal League, had a goal and
an assist. Drew Pepper, Hayden MacDonald, Aaron
Dobson and Nolan Gladwish added assists.
Evan Musson and Emma
McCormick both played outstanding in goal.
The fun was not over
as the Storm stayed to watch the Caps/Wings game
and 5 players from Mooretown were chosen to
shake hands and greet the Caps as they skated
onto the ice for warm-ups.
Also 4 skaters and a
goalie from Barrie and Mooretown were selected
to participate in a shootout between the 1st and
2nd period of the Wings game.
The four kids that
sold the most tickets to the game were chosen
and they were: Nolan Gladwish, Elijah Contreras,
Rory Pickle, Jared Pageau and Emma McCormick in
goal. Most people would have been nervous
skating out for the 1st time in front of
thousands of people but not this group of cool
cucumbers.
Emma McCormick was
perfect in net stopping all 4 shooters leading
the Storm to a 1-0 shootout victory. Jared
pageau scored the lone shootout goal on a deke
but the other 3 shooters all made great moves
but the excessive snow on the ice impeded their
shots aiding the Barrie goaltender.
This amazing day
ended with a Red Wing victory over the Caps 3-2.
A special thank you
goes out to Paulette Wrightman for her hard work
in putting this together. It was a memory that
will last a lifetime.
Sunday Oct.
11 Mooretown 8 Ridgetown 7
In the most exciting
game to date Mooretown squeaked out a win over
an undefeated Ridgetown club. They were a very
solid hockey with a couple exceptional players.
Mooretown could have
easily blamed being tired and mailed this game
in but instead dug deep and played their best
game to date.
The Storm opened the
scoring on an unassisted goal from Jared Pageau.
Ridgetown answered back and the score was
deadlocked 1-1 after one.
The Rebels then
scored three straight goals by the 9:31 mark of
period #2 before Jared Pageau scored 2 goals six
seconds apart, one on a nice feed from Bailey
Smalls, to make the score 4-3 with 8 1/2 mins
left in the period. Ridgetown then regained
their 3 goal cushion scoring 2 more goals thirty
seconds apart. Pageau then scored at the 6:37
mark of period #2 from Elijah Contreras and
then again with 9 seconds remaining in the
period to pull Mooretown back within a goal
heading into the final period.
One minute into the
third, Pageau from Contreras and Nolan Gladwish,
squared the contest at 6-6. The tie would be
short-lived as the Rebels regained the lead at
the 12:32 mark of the 3rd.
Trailing the contest
7-6 and less than 2 mins remaining Mooretown was
called for a phantom trip to put them
shorthanded with 1:46 left to play.
Jared Pageau scored
to tie the game 7-7 with 1:30 left and then
scored his eighth goal of the game with 5
seconds remaining and still shorthanded on a
shot just under the crossbar.
Evan Musson went the
distance in net and made some exceptional saves.
All the hard work in
practice paid off as Mooretown was fighting
until the end with only 10 skaters while
Ridgetown was gassed by the end of the game.
It was a well earned
victory and hopefully gives the Storm some
confidence for the rest of the season.
