Sarnia Jr. Sting Bantam A/AA winners of Owen Sound
Fall Classic
The Sarnia Jr Sting Bantam A/AA team competed at
their first tournament of the year in the Owen Sound
Fall Classic Oct 16th - 18th. They defeated fellow
Alliance League member Kitchener Rangers 3-2 in the
finals for the Championship. Sarnia opened the
scoring less than 2 minutes into the first.
Kitchener tied the game with 5 minutes left in the
first. Before the period ended the Sting scored two
more to take a 3-1 lead. Solid goaltending kept the
second period scoreless. Kitchener pulled within one
goal scoring with 5:25 left in the third. However
Sarnia controlled much of the play in the final 5
minutes holding on for the victory. This A/AA team
of players born in 1995 incredibly have reached the
Finals in all 13 Tournaments they have played in
including the past 2 seasons and this year.
In the Semi-Finals Saturday evening Sarnia defeated
the Southpoint Capitals 4-2. In their three round
Robin Games the Sarnia Jr Sting Bantam A/AA won 7-1
over West Mall Lightning, edged out the Mooretown
Storm 1-0 and defeated the Toronto Ice Dogs 6-0. For
the tournament they were 5 wins no losses scoring 21
goals and with some stellar goaltending and team
defense allowing only 5 goals.
