Three Sarnia Legionnaires will take part in the annual Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League's Prospects Game, which is for players eligible to compete in the NCAA.

The contest, which is heavily scouted by American college teams, is for players born in 1991, 1992 or 1993 who have no OHL experience. If you play even one shift in an OHL game you are not eligible for a college scholarship in the United States.

Captain Tyler Cicchini, goalie Kyle Washer and centre Shawn Waldie will represent Sarnia at the game, which will be played Jan. 18 in Fort Erie.

The 40 players who will take part were selected by GOJHL general managers.

Interestingly, no London Nationals were selected, despite the fact that they are in first place. Sarnia GM Bob Williamson said that's probably because the Nats have an older team that includes a number of players who are not NCAA eligible.

“It's a very good opportunity” for the Sarnia trio, Williamson said. “Only eight forwards from our conference were selected and we had two of them.”

In other business, Williamson said he is still talking to other teams about possible trades.

The trading deadline is Jan. 10.

“We're talking to different teams, everyone is looking at making changes,” he said. “We talked to a couple of teams last night and we'll probably talk to a couple tonight.”

Williamson added, “We're trying to add quality bodies to our hockey club. A lot of kids have gone to Jr. 'A' or college and its been hard to replace them.”

He noted the Legionnaires lost 13 players from last year's team, including several who went to the OHL.

Cicchini, a left-winger, has scored 14 goals and 13 assists this year. Waldie, a centre, has six goals and 14 assists, despite the fact that he has played in only 21 games.

Washer has appeared in 19 games, posting a 3.13 goals against average and a save percentage of .918.
