Coach
Jeff Perry said Wednesday
that all-star defenceman
Josh Cornelissen has asked
to be traded. At the same
time, Perry said the team
has obtained playmaking ace
Shawn Waldie from the
Lambton Shores Predators in
exchange for cash.
Waldie, a
centre who was the Preds
leading scorer last season,
made an immediate impact,
picking up an assist in last
night's 4-2 loss to the
LaSalle Vipers.
"He's a
nice addition to our hockey
club,” Perry said. “He's
been off his blades for some
time, so we're going to ease
him in, but he'll be a key
component to our lineup.
He's got speed and he sees
the ice well. He can dish
(pass) well and he's got
good vision on the ice.”
Waldie, a
Sarnia native who stands 5'8
and weighs 160 pounds, is 18
years old. Last season,
playing for the last-place
Preds, he had nine goals and
34 assists for 43 points.

Cornelissen, a first team
all-star who led all
conference defencemen in
scoring last winter, did not
dress against the Vipers.
"He's
requested a trade,” Perry
said. “Unfortunately, he's
asking for more minutes than
we can give him. He wants to
play 35 minutes a game.”
Perry
said the club will try to
accommodate Cornelissen, but
he emphasized he will not
give him away cheaply. |
