The Water's Edge Classic Soccer Tournament came to a close on Sunday afternoon under perfect weather conditions.

"Fantastic event." Tournament Director Dean Troiani said "I'm very happy with the outcome it seemed to run very smoothly and that's what happen when you have great volunteers behind you and your organization."

Twenty-eight teams competed, some travelling from Windsor, Belle River, Brantford, Cambridge, London, Lambeth and surrounding areas.  Sarnia had four local teams compete, two in the U9 division one of which was a U8 Select team and two in the U10.  The only local team to move on to the next round was the U8 but were knocked out in the quarter final round.

To end the event the fans were treated to two exciting and close finals. In the U9 final the Windsor Wheels defeated Belle River FC in a shootout to take the cup with a final score of 2 - 1. In the U10 division the Oakridge
Thunder defeated Brantford 1 - 0.

    Tournament Director Dean Troiani

"Overall fantastic event, I think we promoted it well and we sold out both divisions, we had teams on a waiting list which is very unfortunate because we could only utilize five mini fields. If we have access to other fields we could really balloon this event."

Troiani is hoping to incorporate two new divisions and increase the tournament to 40 teams next year by adding  U11 & U12 which will utilize V9.  He hopes to also incorporate the use of Norm Perry Park front and back fields.

"I wants to make this tournament Sarnia's premier soccer tournament, outdoing all the tournaments in all sports.  I think we can do it, we have such a beautiful venue, beautiful city, nothing but compliments on our waterfront so why not expose it in this means." Troiani said

Troiani future goals is to further expand the tournament to make it a girls and boys event.

"If we work together, hopefully one day we can see eye to eye with the girls club and work an association with them to have one tournament girls and boys alike. But I see that down the road but I'm praying that will happen some day. In retrospect we are going to keep doing what we are doing here for the Water's Edge and keep growing it every year."
