The
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 Iron Hides utilized a well balanced offense
to defeat the Robinson Design and Drafting Razor Claws 36-0 in Atom Division
action. Josh Manning led the victors with a pair of majors with other
touchdowns counted by Jack Vozza, Parker Wyant, Ben Aguiar and Brody
Nesbitt.
The other Atom Division game was a competitive affair with the Sylvan
Learning Centre Fire Bolts and the Optimist Club of Sarnia Lakeshore Inferno
battling to a 24-24 draw. The Bolts led 18-12 at the half on touchdown runs
by Zavier Mitchell, Cameron Rand and Shane Knight. Sean O'Rourke and Nathan
Tremblay countered for the Inferno. Tremblay's second touchdown of the game
tied it for the Inferno but the Fire Bolts replied on their very next
possession with a 5 year run by Shane Knight for his second touchdown.
O'Rourke then tied it for the Inferno and rounded out the scoring in this
very entertaining game.
In the Bantam Division, the Mechanical Contractor's Association Toros built
up a 26-0 halftime lead on 2 touchdowns by Ethan Kerby and single majors by
Joe Rose and Jackson Grasse. Zachary Tremblay added a convert. The teams
traded touchdowns in the second half as Kerby counted his third and Aiden
Wildfong sped 65 yards to the end zone for the Mammoths.
In the final game, the Jim Easson/Brian Guenette Exit Realty Grizzlies
survived a scare from the Bigras Painting Tiger Sharks and hung on for a
28-19 victory. The Grizzlies opened up 14-0 halftime lead on 15 and 35 yard
runs by Avery Smiley and a convert by Justin Cain.
The Sharks put their first points on the board in the third quarter when
Dylan Hiltz drove to the end zone from 9 yards out to narrow the lead to
14-6. Hiltz scored again on the Tiger Shark's next possession making the
score 14-12 for the Grizzlies. Smiley who turned out to be a one man
wrecking crew for the Grizzlies and accounted for all their touchdowns,
restored their 2 possession lead on a 66 yard run, which was successfully
converted by Cain to make the score 22-12.
The Tiger Sharks got that one back as Austin
West galloped 62 yards to once more close the gap. A convert by Hiltz made
the score 22-19. Smiley rounded out the scoring for the victors running 77
yards eluding tacklers that appeared to have him trapped behind the line of
scrimmage. The game was a hard hitting affair that took a physical toll on
both teams.
