Northern Vikings vs Chatham Ursuline College
SWOSSAAA
Semi Finals
November 15, 2008
Northern Vikings went to Chatham’s Ursuline
college on a cold wet rainy day and came home
with 25 - 2 win. Northern won the coin toss and
this was a precursor of things to come even
though they were forced to punt on their first
possession it was not all that bad. On
Ursuline’s first possession they were forced to
punt as well and they had their first punt
blocked all season as the Northern Vikings had
excellent field possession deep in Chatham’s
end. Three plays later Northern capitalized with
their first score of the day on a 7 yard run up
the middle by Dave VanDerveen, Tyler Hopkins
converted the extra point giving Northern a 7-0
lead.
After a couple of
two and outs from both teams Jeff Williams
connected with Tyler Hopkins on an 8 yard
completion for Northern’s second major of the
day. After the extra point attempt was wide both
team’s played tight defense to finish out the
first half with Northern leading 13-0.
After a break from
the weather both teams came out firing
defensively as a number of good plays were made
by both Josh Barker and Jace Galloway who
stopped two drives in a row with fumble
recoveries. After one recovery Tyler Hopkins
kicked a single for Northern to extend their
lead to 14-0.
Shortly after that
Northern
scored their final major of the day on a 34 yard
catch and run from Jeff Williams to #34 Ben
Withers. Tyler Hopkins added the extra point and
Northern finished off the scoring with a Tyler
Hopkins field goal from 24 yards out.
The Northern defense
went Chatham and shut out the Ursuline College
Lancer’s vaunted offense which had been
averaging over 40 points a game! It was a great
team effort by all the Vikings on a sloppy field
and day.
Northern now moves
on to play Herman from Windsor
next Friday evening in Windsor. |
