St. Clair Colts vs Northern Vikings
After yesterdays
LSSAA High
School hockey game between the St. Clair Colts and the
Northern Vikings neither coach could say, "the bounces didn't go our
way."
Both teams scored a goal of weird bounces. Northern managed to get
the better end of the deal winning 4-3.
"When you have been in this game a long time you have seen that
happen," Northern head coach Chris Edgar said after his teams win.
"But they were funny bounces." The first took place in the
second period.
With Northern 2-0 on goals by Ben Sokol and
Zack Anderson, a Vikings player fired a shot in on Colts goalie Mike
Ward. The puck caromed off
the glass back into the slot. Ward had thought the puck went
around the boards. To his surprise Northern's Cody
Stout had fired it into the yawning cage. Ward stood helpless
with his arms in the air as the Vikings celebrated.
But his team never backed down. Down by three going into the third, the
Colts stormed out with two unanswered goals by Adam Cooper and Trevor
Crawford. After a Vikings timeout Crawford again fired one in on
the Vikings goal. The shot went off the goalie then off the defenceman then
trickled over the line to tie the game.
"(Crawford) has been working hard all season and it was good to see him
get two goals," St. Clair coach Craig Griffin said. "I am happy
with the way our team battled back."
The loss didn't help the Colts as they attempt to make the playoffs in
this, the last week of the regular season.
They will play SCITS today at Clearwater Arena
in a must win for both teams.
St. Clair is 3-5-3 in 11 games for nine points. SCITS is 4-7-0
with eight points.
There is a log jam for the fourth and final playoff spot. Along with
SCITS and St.Clair, St. Christopher's is
currently fourth with a record of 4-5-1 for nine points. St. Christophers will
play the win-less St.
Pats team today and then will play the undefeated LCCVI Lancers
tomorrow.
If St. Clair wins today against SCITS and St. Chris losses their final
two games, St. Clair is in.
If St. Christopher wins it's final two than the Cyclones are in.
If there is a tie for the final spot, than there will be a one game
playoff.
Northern and LCCVI will host with LCCVI finishing number one in the
league.
North Lambton is
currently in third with 11 points.
