On Tuesday (March 9) the St. Christopher Cyclones defeated the General Amherst Bulldogs by a score of 5-3 in the SWOSSAA "A/AA" boy’s hockey final. The game, played in Amherstburg, was a see-saw battle. Although the Cyclones jumped into a three goal lead, Amherst battled back with two goals in the second period. St. Chris capitalized on an early third period scoring opportunity to go up 4-2, but Amherst answered with a goal three minutes later to make the score 4-3 for St. Chris with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Amherst applied incredible pressure in an effort to tie the game, but St. Chris' Jeff Scroeter scored a key goal with three minutes left in the game to re-establish St. Chris' two goal cushion at a critical point in the game. With the Amherst goalie pulled for a sixth attacker St. Chris withstood the Amherstburg barrage that ensued to hold on to the 5-3 win.

Outstanding St. Chris goaltending was provided by Colton James and timely goals throughout the game by St. Chris resulted on their victory. Garret Schauteet opened the scoring for St. Chris 5 minutes into the game that set the tone for the game which never saw St. Chris relinquish the lead.

Nic Sproverio led St. Chris scoring with a goal and two assists. Pietro Restivo and Keegan Brandon each had a goal and an assist and Tom Flamminio and Matt Cimetta each chipped in with two helpers.

The St. Christopher Cyclones Boys Hockey Team travel to St. Catharines on March 22-25 to attend the Provincial School Championship Tournament (OFSAA). This will be the first time in the school’s history that the Cyclones hockey team has qualified for this prestigious provincial championship tournament.
