Lancaster '12 (Monkton, Md.
/Mercersburg Academy) scored with
11:10 left in the first sudden-victory
overtime period to lift host Hamilton
College to a 4-3 win against nationally
ranked and previously unbeaten William
Smith College in a Liberty League field
hockey game played at Campus Road
Athletic Field on Sept. 25.
Hamilton (3-1 overall, 1-0 Liberty)
rebounded from a three-goal deficit to
shock the 15th-ranked Herons. The
Continentals have defeated William Smith
(6-1, 0-1) just four times in 34
meetings, but have now won the last two.
Hamilton edged the Herons 3-2 in
overtime in 2008.
Lancaster also tied the score on her
first goal this season with 12:55 left
in regulation, when she tipped in a shot
by Catie Torcivia '12 (Rumson,
N.J. /Rumson-Fair Haven Reg High Sch)
. Torcivia started the comeback with
19:49 remaining when she redirected a
shot by Sarah Flisnik '12 (Marcy,
N.Y. /Whitesboro High School).
Amy Allen '10 (Bright's
Grove, Ontario /Loomis Chaffee School )
pulled the Continentals within 3-2 with
13:32 left on one of Hamilton's 20
penalty corners. Erin McNally
'12(Scotia, N.Y. /Burnt
Hills-Ballston Lake HS) entered the
ball and Colleen Callaghan '11
(Queensbury, N.Y. /Glens Falls High
School ) stopped it for Allen, who
hammered a shot that deflected off a
defender and the goalie before hitting
the back of the cage.
William Smith scored first 10 minutes,
13 seconds into the game. Eleven minutes
later, the Herons scored their second
goal. William Smith had a seemingly
comfortable 3-0 advantage with 7:36 left
in the first half.
Courtney DeMaria '10 (Littleton,
Mass. /Groton School) made 12 saves
for the Continentals. Hamilton held a
24-22 edge in shots and William Smith
was awarded 16 corners.
The Continentals hosted the University
of Rochester for another league game on
Saturday, Sept. 26.

Erin McNally '12 (Scotia,
N.Y. /Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake HS)
scored one goal and assisted on the
other to lead Hamilton College to a
2-0 win against visiting University
of Rochester in a Liberty League
field hockey game at Campus Road
Athletic Field on Sept. 26.
McNally has two goals and is tied
for the team lead with three assists
this season. Amy Allen '10
(Bright's Grove, Ontario /Loomis
Chaffee School ) scored her
second goal in as many days and
Colleen Callaghan '11 (Queensbury,
N.Y. /Glens Falls High School)
added an assist. Callaghan leads the
team with 15 points.
Courtney DeMaria '10 (Littleton,
Mass. /Groton School ) stopped
two shots and recorded her second
shutout.
Hamilton (4-1 overall, 2-0 Liberty)
posted its first win against the
Yellowjackets since 1995. Rochester
(3-5, 0-2) had won the previous 13
meetings.
After a scoreless first half,
McNally gave the Continentals a 1-0
lead 5 minutes, 19 seconds into the
second. Allen clinched the victory
on her goal with 2:33 remaining.
Rochester held an 11-7 edge in
shots, including 7-1 in the first
half, and both teams were awarded
six penalty corners.
Hamilton has outscored its opponents
11-3 after halftime this year. The
Continentals travel away from home
for the first time in 2009 on
Tuesday, Sept. 29, when they visit
Hartwick College for a non-league
game.
