Steve Locke
Steve Locke
has been involved with Scouting since 1976 where he
began as a Cub and Scout leader in Sarnia. Steve also
was a part of the 1st Corunna Troop in 1977
as well as helped new scout leaders in their own troops
throughout Sarnia. Steve held many administrative roles
with Scouting including Assistant District Commissioner
in 1984 and Great Lakes Region Assistant Commissioner.
Steve
continued his involvement in Scouting in the 90’s by
taking the role of Regional Commissioner for the Great
Lakes Region from 1993 to 1996, and then became the St.
Clair District P.R. chair till 1998 and President of the
St. Clair district until 1999. He also held Commissioner
roles for Camlachie and Point Edward from 2003 to today.
Steve has also been involved in many camps for training
other leaders, as well as involved in child abuse
programs throughout his Scouting career.
Steve
has been involved as chair and on staff for many youth
camps throughout the years.
He was the Team Leader for the Welsh Jamboree where he
took 24 Scouts to Wales and England for 21 days. He
has been involved with Canadian Jamborees and In 1994 he
headed the Great Lakes Jamboree which is held every 2
years and continues today.
In 1995 he Chair DIBC World Brotherhood auction. Held
yearly in May this event has raised $30,000 for Scouting
youth in disadvantaged countries. Projects have included
paying for translating books for Scouting in the Ukraine
to supporting projects in Kenya, Belize and Rwanda.
Steve
has been the recipient of the Certificate of Merit in
1988, the Silver Acorn for distinguished service to
Scouting in 1996, and has also received the Queens
Golden Jubilee Medal and Scouts Canada 100th
Anniversary Medal.
