The Lambton Cup

HISTORY OF THE LSSAA “LAMBTON CUP”

LSSAA boys’ high school hockey in Lambton County officially began play in the fall of 1986. The actual Cup traces its origin to Switzerland that same year. In late 1986, the silver Cup was presented to the St.Clair Boys’ hockey team at the conclusion of a series of exhibition games that they played in that country.

Once brought back to Sarnia, Al Duffy (a manager of St.Clair hockey) then had the Cup mounted onto a wood base. Christened the LSSAA “Lambton Cup”, it was presented to the champions of boys’ high school hockey in 1986/87.

In that first season of LSSAA boys’ hockey, the “Cup” was won by the St.Clair Colts. It has been presented every year since then to the champions of LSSAA Boys high school hockey. It is kept on display in the LSSAA showcase in the Clearwater arena.
